MATO began long before the seed was planted. It started with a rooted sense of biophilia (the word biophilia originates from the Greek “philia” meaning love of life or living things). Creating this indoor jungle wasn’t just about replacing concrete with life, it was about creating the foundation – from the ground up - to harvest the antidote we all need to reconnect with and to (our) nature. MATO transforms the heart of Abel Pereira da Fonseca, an abandoned winery warehouse in Lisbon’s industrial river-side area, into a plant-filled botanical experience with an organic feel in every detail…

The lush green colour scheme of foliage and reclaimed materials salvaged during the recovery of the building create the plant-nation of MATO, a restaurant, bar and musical stage that breathes life into Lisbon’s newest cultural melting spot - 8 Marvila.
